Richard Gilbert asked:

It may seem like eBay stores aren’t really worth the fees when you consider that the listings don’t appear in the main search results on eBay. However, if you spend a little time promoting your store you’ll soon find why it can be far more profitable than listing your items as regular eBay auctions. eBay even provide store owners with many free ways to promote and generate traffic to their store, however many sellers don’t fully take advantage on these resources. Here are several ways you can quickly and easily promote your eBay store for free.

1. Your “About Me” Page

Each seller on eBay is given the opportunity to create an About Me Page. Most users tend to use this space to generally talk about themselves, such as interests and hobbies which is fine if you are a buyer. However, from a sellers point of view it’s a complete waste of advertising space.

If used properly your About Me page can be one of the best ways to promote your store. Your About Me page has different rules and guidelines to the sales page of your auctions. Whereas links away from eBay are generally not allowed on your sales page, they ARE allowed on your About Me page. This means that you can enter links to your own website outside of eBay or perhaps even create a form allowing people to join your newsletter if you run one. Don’t worry if you do not have your own site or newsletter as this space can be used to promote your eBay store even further. You could perhaps list items that you will be selling in the near future to keep potential customers interested.

Every eBay user is allocated an “About Me” page so If you do not have one set up yet, I strongly recommend creating one as the rewards can be huge from just a few minutes work. Once set-up, each time a user views your listings they will see an About Me icon next to your username. However, don’t just rely on eBay to push traffic to it; also include a few links of your own on your sales page.

2. Other eBay Listings

As previously stated, it’s only the regular eBay Auctions and Buy It Now listings that are displayed in the top search results, but that doesn’t mean you can’t use this traffic to attract attention to your store and other items.

Although eBay kindly inserts as “Visit My eBay Shop” link at the top of each listing, there is no harm is added in a few links yourself. Perhaps at the bottom of your listing you could encourage people to view your other items, for example a little line such as “Click here to view similar items from my eBay Store” would do the trick. You even offer an added incentive such as discounted prices if they bought multiple items from you.

3. Use eBay’s Reviews And Guides Section

The reviews and guide section of eBay is growing all the time, however it seems to be only a select number of users that are adding content. And most likely, they will be the ones that are generating all the traffic and auction views.

What’s great about this section of eBay is that whenever you add an article, eBay will automatically place a link back to your eBay store at the bottom of the page. Browse over to eBay now for a look at what the reviews and guides section is all about. If you decide to write a short review or guide then make sure it relates to the products you sell in your store.

I hope this article has given you an insight into how with a little work and imagination you can really boost traffic and push customers to your eBay store, without having to spend a penny on any sort of advertising. As with the majority of promotional work, it’s all about being creative and trying out new ideas. If one of your ideas doesn’t work, then you’ve not lost anything by trying.

PostHeaderIcon eBay Shops: Enough Niches For Everybody!

ebay shopping
Steve Dempster asked:

You have probably read plenty about niche marketing on the internet - but what does it really mean? This article takes a look at niche marketing in its context as an eBay shop based business.

eBay: who would have thought ten years ago that this little project of Pierre Omidyar’s, started in his living room, would now be the global phenomenon it has grown into? Many things have changed in the last ten years and opportunities for business online have mushroomed to the extent that there’s now almost ‘too much information’. One thing that seems to baffle people who want to get on the eBay bandwagon - and it’s nothing to do with the mechanics of having an eBay account which, let’s face it, are pretty simple. No - the real stumper for many people is this: what do I sell? What do I trade in? And what’s the best way to get exposure for my goods?

These questions are not asked by the casual eBay member; the one who wants to sell off some unwanted household goods or hold the online version of a garage sale. That type of trading, although still massively widespread amongst the eBay community, is not what niche marketing is about. In fact, it’s not what an eBay business in 2007 is about at all.

I personally don’t know any eBay millionaires but they doubtless exist and let’s get one thing straight: eBay did NOT make these people rich - they made THEMSELVES rich. They had the savvy to see that eBay is what it is - a superb turnkey operation simply begging to be taken advantage of. They learned how to take advantage of the plethora of tools and reports that eBay waved in front of them, tools that elsewhere could well have cost a fortune. And do you know what? You can do exactly the same! It’s just a question of learning how to use the eBay system.

One of the must-knows for anyone setting up or operating any trading business is this: know your market. What do your customers want? Where are they? What do they want to pay for your goods? These are questions that all business owners must know but, before that, before anything, you must know what you are going to sell. What is your stock-in-trade? Where will you buy it from? What investment do you need and (and this is a really important one) - how are you going to get those products in front of these potential customers that your research tells you are champing at the bit to buy from you?

In a redbrick business there are several avenues to market - direct mail, yellow pages, mailshots, catalogues - all tried and tested and all ranging from quite expensive to ruinously so. Just try pricing a minute of prime TV airtime - but have the smelling salts ready! On eBay things are a little different - simply get an eBay shop.

For those who don’t know what an eBay shop is, in some ways it’s a return to the old virtual shopping mall idea of the late ‘nineties, with all the pros and none of the cons. The virtual malls were a good idea let down by clunky servers and snail-speed connections. By contrast, an eBay shop is quick, easy to maintain and, importantly, easy for your prospective customers to use. It’s also inexpensive and will put your goods in front of more prospective customers than you could ever realistically hope to contact by other means.

Where an eBay shop can really come into its own is when you have your own website. Why? Simple. Your eBay shop can easily be embedded into a page on your site - where of course you can offer other goods or services and have targeted ads such as Google AdSense on the page, giving you more opportunities to earn income. An eBay shop can be as simple or as complex as you like and can grow as your business and experience does. Many people start off by selling products that they are interested in - a niche interest! But there are many, many niches within the eBay marketplace and ways of discovering them do exist - unfortunately these are beyond the scope of this article.

eBay shops are ideal for those niche businesses I mentioned above. If you want to sell pottery figures from Wade - great! Bakelite inkwells - no problem! I’m not saying you’ll ever make your fortune doing this but the important thing is that you will ‘cut your teeth’ in a real business environment - and there are enough niches for all. Maybe you’ll spread to a broader product base and make your million after all - maybe you’ll just have a very nice niche business that you understand and are good at. It’s all up to you!

PostHeaderIcon Learning How To Play The Guitar

ebay guitar
Kevin Sinclair asked:

Learning to play the guitar is an aspiration that many people have. Unfortunately knowing how to play the guitar correctly can be more difficult than you had expected. This is why many people give in after only a few lessons. The same applies for many different musical instruments. It is important to take the commitment in learning to play the guitar, before you can succeed in playing it well.

Learning the basic steps is of great importance, as is making the time for practice sessions in order to be able to play the guitar well. These basic steps include:

1. Owing your own guitar is the first step. Even though it is possible to purchase guitars for a cheap price at places such as eBay and department stores, it really is worth considering spending a little more money and purchasing a well-made guitar if you are serious about learning. What type of guitar you wish to purchase is another decision that you need to take seriously. You may wish to begin with an acoustic guitar rather than an electric guitar. You may even wish to learn to play the bass guitar.

2. The basic open chords should be the first thing to learn to play on your guitar. Beginners typically learn C, D, G, and A. A chord progression is simply a series of chords that make up a piece of music. The G-C-D chord progression is generally followed in many rock songs. Therefore, once you have learned to play these chords, it should be possible for you to follow along with hundreds of songs. Handy charts of commonly used open position guitar chords can be found on the Internet which will get you started.

3. Tablature, or otherwise known as tabs, should be the next thing that you learn. These show you exactly where your fingers should be placed when you play a chord to a song. Tabs also show you where the words match to the music, and when to tablature for literally thousands of songs.

4. Barre chords should also be learnt. Barre chords are chord shapes whereby one or more fingers are used to hold down multiple strings across the fingerboard of the guitar. Barre chords are also known as bar chords or moveable chords, due to it being possible to move them up or down the neck of the guitar as required.

5. Practice is the most important factor to playing a guitar. Never expect to become an expert overnight, because it won’t happen. All musicians, regardless of how naturally gifted they are, have had to put in hours of practice. However, it need not be too hard. Practicing and playing songs is great fun, especially when they are songs that you really like. Give some effort when learning to play the guitar and you will be rewarded.

PostHeaderIcon Cross Promotion Between eBay and Your Own Shopping Site

ebaydropshippingworkathome asked:

Last time we came across a concept that you should never limit your sales in eBay only. Building up your own shopping site is one of the strategies to expand your revenue. It can also diversify your income streams, making your business much more sustainable.

But many of you may have encountered the same difficulty: how to bring in decent traffic to an individual shopping site? Even if you can bring in traffic, how to persuade customers to buy from your site while they have never heard of it? Obviously, site traffic and site credibility are the two most challenging topics for a new shopping site.

For a new shopping site, do not expect that you can get a top position in search engines. Even you are good in SEO, it may take you 6 to 12 months before the results are satisfactory. You may consider to use PPC advertising to get some immediate traffic, but it costs money. Then what can you do without spending extra cost? No doubt that you should think about how to make use of the existing resources you have, i.e. your eBay store.

In our last article, we have talked about how to drive traffic from your eBay About Me Page. Another approach is to make use of your email communication to customers.

During the whole sales process, you should be sending different notices to your customers at different stages. For example, notice for payment received, shipment arranged, feedback left, etc.. eBay is very strict to limit promotion of off-eBay sales in the site, but they will not be able to control what you do with your messages to customers. Take a look at a sample shipment notice from an eBay seller recently:

(Quote)

Dear Customer,

**Special Note**

We have too many designs which we cannot put them all in eBay. To find out more, come visit our site (Wow Gift Mart) at:

http://www.wowgiftmart.com

All purchases in our site are protected by Paypal Buyer Protection and you are assured the highest quality level of service will be delivered as we do in eBay.

**Shipment Detail**

Your item(s) have been packed for delivery in our stock retrieval today. And the package will be departing port of Hong Kong in about 2 business days. Normally it takes 7-14 days for the physical transportation.

If you have any further questions about your purchase, don’t hesitate to let us know.

Once your item arrives in satisfactory condition, please leave feedback for us. We will do the same for you.

Thank you again!

(Unquote)

Of course, not all customers will click on the link when they get your notice, or some of them may even not read the message at all. However, it is a free of charge promotion anyway. Why not taking the advantage out of it?

Another challenge for a new shopping site is: how to persuade your visitors to buy with confidence when they don’t know who you are?

Take a look at this shopping site: Wow Gift Mart

Can you see that it has made good use of their credibility from their eBay history? When people buy in eBay, the feedback profile is definitely one of the key determining factors whether they will buy from a seller or not. Therefore, letting visitors know how you did in eBay would absolutely help raising their confidence level to buy in your site.

You can do it, too, can’t you?

PostHeaderIcon The Ebay Power Seller’s Winning Strategy

Michael Tasker asked:

Bay seller gains the status of a Power Seller they are awarded a badge which they use on everyone of their auctions. Such reputations are build on a successful formula of making a lot of cash and providing top customer service. For you to succeed, you need to become aware of how they think and act.

How Does Anyone Achieve the Right to an eBay Power Seller Status?

It is only eBay itself who gets to decide who can be a Power Seller, and they have strict criteria to determine if someone qualifies. To achieve the minimum PowerSeller level, you must have a feedback rating of at least a minimum of 98% positive and sell at least $1,000 worth of items every month for three months in a row. There are differing levels of Power Seller membership: $1,000 total is bronze, $3,000 is silver, $10,000 is gold, $25,000 is platinum and for the top eBay Power Sellers, $125,000 is titanium.

If Power Sellers ever fail to meet the required amount of sales, or their feedback falls below 98% positive, then they lose their Power Seller status. Therefore, the only people who get to be eBay Power Sellers on eBay are the people who have been successful for a predetermined period of time and are most likely to continue their successful activity. Once this status is achieved, it has to been vigourously guarded as it can provide the holder of a Power Seller status the passport to make serious money on eBay

Their eBay Shop and the Marketplace.

This is the most important part of understanding how eBay Power Sellers think. They never think that their eBay business is just a hobby or garage sale. Quite the opposite. They approach their selling on eBay as a business. It would be incorrect to assume that such reputations and status are gained by offering in an auction anything that is lying around. Quite simply, there is a business plan and it is adhered to. Their business success is modelled on profiting from a niche market where they have already researched untapped demand for items and have found a reliable source to supply such items.

Power Sellers think far more like a regular retail bricks and mortar business. It is simple: they offer the same items again, every auction for regular buyers. They do ‘boring’ business things like keep inventories and budgets. They know what they’re going to be selling, how much they buy it for and how much they expect to sell for. Just like a real shop, there can be hard times sometimes, but their income is stable and their eBay business can grow.

The succesful eBay Power Seller will always avoid taking long term risks for the chance of a short term gain. Look after your reputation, manage your selling properly, provide good customer service and the rewards will appear. If you following this proven method, your sales will increase and before long you will have attained an eBay Power Seller status. Continue as you have been doing, expanding the successes and stoping the poorest selling items and not forgetting giving excellent customer service and soon you will find your eBay Power Seller status being elevated to the next level.

You will then no doubt consider how you can utilise the phenominal power of eBay into other businesses you may have. Here is a marketplace with over 270 million potential customers which you can sell to with your skill and reputation of being an eBay Power Seller.

There are many people that own guitars or are considering purchasing a guitar for themselves or someone they love. Guitars make great Christmas gifts, especially for young children. Musical instruments are a great gift to get for your little one, the whole family will have such a great time enjoying watching them play with it for the first time, it will be so entertaining. The family will have the ability to create many lasting memories to last a lifetime. Some people are choosing to have their guitars custom made. The same design is rarely ever used more than once, that is what makes your custom made guitar so special and so unique. The designs that the manufacturers come up with are rarely marketed because of not wanting the same design put on different guitars, they want their piece of art to remain a one of a kind. The most common type of material they will be using would be rosewood. This material is so popular because of its lasting ability. Just make sure that they are using this when you have your guitar custom made.

If you are interested in having a custom made guitar created then you need to start now doing the research. Once you find the professionals that you are interested in using, contact them, go in and talk with them, tell them exactly what you are wanting for you own special guitar. PostHeaderIcon Ebay Home Business! Is It For You?

Selvyn Patterson asked:

For the past few years the number of people using eBay has grown rapidly. Many eBay users are just buying and selling for some extra cash or as a hobby, while there are many people out there taking it to a new level and running their own full-time business.

Many are making their eBay home business the main source of income and have figured out all or most of eBay’s marketing strategies in order to be productive.

There are numerous reasons to start an eBay home business and whatever the reason, it is sure to be successful.

Why start an eBay home business? Out of all worldwide businesses, 64% said that the Internet has had a good impact on their sales. Also, having an online business can greatly increase geographical sales by reaching customers all over the world, which otherwise, would never have been possible. 73% of business owners have also managed to cut their administrative costs by putting their business online.

Owning an eBay home business can give you the flexibility to start work when you want and finish when you want. Working from home, you can be your own boss and decision making is entirely down to you and no-one else.

Operating an eBay home business is relatively easy and a little market research will go a long way in determining your success.

Selling junk that people don’t want will get you nowhere and you’ll most probably be doomed for failure… even before you begin, but researching into what products are’ Hot’ and what your buyers are actually looking for, will most definitely have the opposite effect and your eBay shop visitor’s will be rushing to buy your products.

‘eBay Seller Central’ http://pages.ebay.com/sellercentral offer an excellent resource in getting you up to speed with every aspect of the eBay marketplace. This also includes ratios on what products are selling well and products that are not.

The bottom line is supply and demand; you must find the products that are in demand and then supply that specific market.

A recent ‘AC Nelson’ poll showed that nearly 53% of online shoppers plan to buy even more in the next year. A large part of this shopping is done on eBay. After all, it is the Internet’s No.1 shopping and auction website. If that’s not a good reason to start an eBay home business, then I don’t know what is.

With over 160 million registered eBay shoppers and over 100,000 of them on eBay each day, an eBay home business definitely has the potential to be successful and make the user a lucrative income.

eBay also offers excellent e-commerce advice and helpful tips to get you started at: http://pages.ebay.com/merchantsolutions/ecommerceresources/ and can put you in good stead throughout the duration of your new business venture.

Thinking of what to sell on eBay with your new home business needn’t be difficult.

Do you have a specific hobby that would interest others or do you know enough about a subject that would perhaps class you as an expert in that field? If so, create an information product about that specific hobby for example:

Cycling - “A guide to Bicycle trips in Europe.” Bicycle spare parts are also becoming harder to find. Creating a market for this specific niche could be potentially profitable.

Cookery - “101 Delicious recipes for Diabetics.” You may have been a chef or cook and you’re looking to create an additional revenue stream using the knowledge you possess.

Google is a fabulous resource for market research and by simply typing into their search query box whatever interests you, would return thousands, if not millions of topics to give you ideas and inspiration to get your eBay home business started.

Supplying your customers with a service or a product that solves a problem, will provide your eBay business with profitable sales for a long time.

PostHeaderIcon eBay Basics: Four Focal Points For Beginners

ebay shopping
Steve Dempster asked:

So you want to make a business out of eBay? Maybe you want to make the move from casual ‘clear-the-attic’ selling to a focused business approach? If that’s the case, the following four pointers should help you achieve just that.

1. Decide what you are going to sell. This may seem obvious but it’s a massive pitfall for the unwary. It’ is so easy to become sidetracked and lose focus of what you decided to sell in the first place!

Say you have decided to sell animal figurines. Say - it might be a good idea to do those cute Disney figures too! And why not have a look at those Royal Worcester vases while you’re at it? Take this road and pretty soon you will end up as a general retailer of ceramics and porcelain. Any idea how much stock you’ll need for that?

So point one is: stick to your chosen niche. Do this, be ruthless and single-minded about it. Heck, you’re a beginner, not Wal-Mart!

2. Keep a tight control on profits. Now, this might seem self-evident but never, ever forget those ‘hidden’ costs that erode your margin. These include eBay and PayPal charges, postal charges, packing costs and (if any) the cost of borrowing.

Also, if you are selling a line that consistently gives low returns at your auctions - drop it. You may be selling carloads of this particular line but remember the old saying - ‘turnover is vanity, profit is sanity’. What does this mean?

Simply, it means that you should avoid the temptation to keep a line selling merely to boost your turnover. It’s no good turning over a million dollars if you have to sell a million items to do it with a profit of five cents an item! Although this may well give you a ‘profit’ of $50,000 this would be gulped down by those charges above. Much better to turn over $100,000 with a thousand items at $100 each on a margin of 40% - that’s $40 per item! Less work and more money in real terms!

3. Adopt a professional attitude. What does that mean? Well, it means that you should be consistent in everything you do - all your listing should have the same template, similar items should be described in the same way, descriptions should be as accurate and as full as possible - and honest! - and, perhaps above all, photos should be clear, well-lit and in focus.

These factors will set you head and shoulders above a huge proportion of the competition. I cannot stress enough that by following the simple rules above your sales will improve overnight. Buyers are people and people are creatures of habit. They will soon come to recognise your unique way of presenting your goods and, providing that you take care of them, these same customers will return time and time again.

4. Don’t give up! This may seem obvious but you would be amazed at the number of would-be eBay moguls that give up at the first sign of a bad week. I have news for you - unless you are very, very, VERY lucky you will not make a full-time business out of eBay overnight. You may never make a full-time business out of it - ever. One thing is certain, though - give up on it and you cannot possibly make anything out of it!

The secret to eBay success is simply to keep at it! Sure, you must monitor your sales items, your profits and also present a businesslike face to the world - but you must also have the determination to go into this thing for the long haul. Sure, the internet is full of schemes that promise you overnight riches but I’ll ask you this: do you know anyone, or know anyone who knows anyone - really - that has come good off these schemes? No?

eBay is truly one of the few businesses now in operation that presents a totally level playing field to the newcomer. It costs you exactly the same to list and sell item ‘A’ as it costs a 20,000+ feedback powerseller to list it. So remember - choose your market, control your profits, be professional and NEVER GIVE UP!
